Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy involves trying to obtain the goal of becoming an outstanding teacher.  In my opinion, an outstanding teacher must have five main attributes.  They must be a leader who leads students through the curriculum and helps them with making good life choices.  They must care about their students through tutoring sessions and using assessment tools that guide learning.  An outstanding teacher must be organized with daily lesson plans and routines to ensure their students' success.  However, outstanding teachers must allow flexibility within those daily lesson plans to ensure that the maximum learning environment is created.  An outstanding teacher must also be respectful and expect students to be respectful in return.  A teacher with leadership qualities, who cares about his or her students, is organized and flexible as well as respectful will be able to create an optimal learning environment for his or her students.

I strive to be a teacher with all these attributes.  My leadership qualities were seen throughout my lessons as an intern as well as a coach of the Junior Girls volleyball team.  I demonstrated caring for my students by offering tutoring sessions during my lunch hours and organized a routine of daily quizzes and weekly exams for my students during internship.  I always had daily lesson plans that allowed for flexibility and was always respectful of my students.

The skills required of an outstanding teacher include knowledge of the subject matter they are teaching, ability to break the subject matter down for greater understanding and knowledge of different strategies to teach the subject matter.  I have tutored students for the last fifteen years and have an extensive knowledge of high school math as well as other subjects.  During tutoring sessions, I learned to find different strategies for the student so he or she could demonstrate a true understanding of the material.

An outstanding teacher has many different skills and attributes.  They must be a leader who cares about their students and is organized, flexible as well as respectful.  They must be knowledgeable in the subject matter and various teaching methods.  I strive to become a teacher with all these skills and attributes.
